It took almost eight years, the Democrats, the media, an unpopular war, and poor fiscal performance for Bush to become as vilified as he eventually was. Obama is pushing seven months in office, has the media enthusiastically cheering and covering for him, and solely on the basis of his own performance his popularity is tanking.
I wrote earlier about Democratic panic over grassroot protests. Over the weekend, some conservative blogs started reporting on what appeared to be outrageous expenditures from the ‘stimulus’ bill as reported on recovery.gov. Golly. I wish the most important thing in my job description was jetting around the country and world, telling everyone that what I want is really, really important. I give the eternal campaign until about next Fall before it becomes the running gag that defines Obama’s presidency in the public’s minds.
