Racist! No, Wait, Wrong Candidate

Apparently it is racist to mention Obama’s current (or at least recent) relationship with a former domestic terrorist and current radical. And it is irrelevant, because, you know, he bombed stuff a long time ago (sshh, nevermind that he said in 2001 that he wished he would have bombed more stuff).  Oh, and its just a distraction from the important issues

Oooh! Look over there!  Something shiny!!  Golly, John McCain being involved in three training ‘incidents’ that damaged his plane or other property in the early-to-mid 1960s is perfectly relevant, and shows his lack of judgment

An article from today on the LA Times website is titled: “Mishaps mark John McCain’s record as a naval aviator.”  The subheading: “Three crashes early in his career led Navy officials to question or fault his judgment.”

Directly after mentioning these crashes “early in McCain’s aviation career in which his flying skills and judgment were faulted or questioned by Navy officials,” the paper slyly mentions:

After McCain was sent to Vietnam, his plane was destroyed in an explosion on the deck of an aircraft carrier in 1967. Three months later, he was shot down during a bombing mission over Hanoi and taken prisoner. He was not faulted in either of those cases and was later lauded for his heroism as a prisoner of war.

Right.  Not faulted.  That’s why they bring it up.

The paper also makes McCain sound like a daredevil for completing his bombing run over Hanoi by talking about all the ways pilots could avoid the surface-to-air missiles, only mentioning at the end:

“Nobody broke off on a bombing run,” said Tullo, later a commercial pilot and now an accident investigation instructor at USC. “It was a matter of manhood.”

Good thing we aren’t being distracted by naughty rumors of Obama and terrorists.  Or Obama and felons.  Or Obama and America-hating racist.  Or . . .

Whoa – do you not read anything? McCain is old, befuddled, out of touch and just two weeks ago said “The economy is fundamentally strong” . . . ok. So now he attacks the next President by racists remarks through his Caribou Barbie instead of laying out his plan to get us out of ANOTHER REPUBLICAN DEPRESSION. The Democrats have been in a bit of power for two years, the congress, senate and presidency have been held by Repubicans for SIX years . . . head in sand? Crazy fundamentalists are crazy fundamentalists no matter what the religion or insane bent. Gees, learn how to change the channel and quit drinking Fox’s koolaid will ya? Read a book for God’s sake.

I actually have not owned a television in years. The inconvenient facts are that Barney Frank et al. have stopped numerous attempts to rein in Fannie & Freddie — the results you see. Are Republicans free of blame? Of course not. But the fundamental problems can be traced back to Democrats (and community activists like Obama was) pushing banks to make these subprime mortgages in the first place, and then refusing to even consider measures that restrict low-income people from buying a house they may not be able to afford.

Just because you don’t like people bringing up your messiah’s relationships with people like Ayers does not make them racist. In the immortal words of Inigo Montoya, “You keep using that work; I do not think it means what you think it means.”

I can’t really address your ‘crazy fundamentalist’ point because there does not appear to be one, but I would agree that they are bad no matter what their beliefs — including Christian, Muslim, or atheist.

Really not sure why you bring up reading, unless you want me to tune into the DailyKOS and the Huffington Post, which both take the concept of Kool-Aid drinking to new levels.
